Let's Chat with Marie Mihaileanu

Join us as we get to know STRĒID ambassador and French Showjumper, Marie Mihaileanu.

STRĒID is pleased to announce its collaboration with French showjumping rider Marie Mihaileanu. Known for its focus on clean lines, performance, and understated elegance, STRĒID aligns naturally with Marie’s professional approach to the sport. This partnership highlights a shared dedication to quality, functionality, and timeless style—both in and out of the arena.

Hi Marie, thank you for chatting with us today. We would love to know a bit more about you, and your connection with both horses and STRĒID. So, Let's start at the beginning, how old were you when you started riding?

"I was 10 years old, at summer camp. Everyone picked tennis and it was full, so I had to try horse-riding. Completely loved it. Then got back home and begged my parents – who weren’t very keen on the idea. But eventually, I signed up in a Pony Club and after 1 year, got into the competition team."

Tell us about your current horses.

"I currently have 2 horses to compete with:
- Z7 Bright Light, 7yo by Big Star.  She is one in a million. She has all the qualities I’m looking for in a horse: clever, respectful, powerful, kind (very big heart), brave, and she loves jumping! As long as she is happy, she will do everything she can to achieve it. We are still learning together but she learns so fast – she will go a very long way.
- Cautious Charlie, a 10yo by Clarcon. I haven’t shown him yet as I’m taking my time for him to settle properly in the region. He is the type of horse you want/need to reach higher levels – a giant baby who will give everything to his rider. With soft hands and strong legs, I’m very confident he will take great care of me."

Going forward what are your riding ambitions?

"I came back to UAE with the intention to work my way back to the higher level. I have bought multiple horses in the past 2 years to build my 4-legged team to reach my goals. It’s a long and steady process – where the supporting system is extremely important as well (trainers, grooms, riders, partners, vets, physios, farriers, dentist, etc.). Eventually, I want my horses to be happy in what they are doing, comfortable in their body and minds, and from there, we will try our best."

What training exercises do you use regularly with your horses and why?

"I feel very comfortable on bigger horses – which often means that flexibility isn’t their forte. I always start to work them very low, long reins, trot and canter. And then I try to work their “acordeon” capabilities (forward/backward, side to side, etc.).
This implies a lot of ground pole work, and gymnastics as well."

If you could have any horse, past or present in your barn, which would you choose and why?

"I had an incredible one-eyed horse when I moved to Dubai for the first time, in 2012. I had bought him for 25,000euros thinking I’ll continue doing my 110 or 115s. Within 1,5years, I was jumping the 140s – regularly placing in UAE. He would have jumped over a car in flames for me – although he couldn’t see from one eye.
I think I have been looking for him since then – he was the love of my life.
But I can’t say I am not blessed with Bright and Charlie – Bright has everything for the highest level and Charlie is my like my vessel who will help me build back up my confidence for the higher level."

Looking at your partnership with us, what does STRĒID mean to you?

"STRĒID for me is a community before anything. It’s a mindset. It’s the art of believing in yourself, feeling supported, confident. It’s bold yet chic.
With STRĒID, less is more – less artifice, better quality.
STRĒID for me personally is the beginning of a great and long adventure."

You were recently part of an exclusive STRĒID Photoshoot. What was your favorite product that was showcased on the day, and why?

"My favorite is the Laguso long sleeve show shirt – simple, comfortable, and very classy."

Do you have any Lucky Mascots, or superstitions that you use when competing?

"I recently started a new routine in competitions – and it has worked its magic. I escape 10 min, lock myself somewhere and meditate while doing some breathwork. It clears my mind, slows down my heartbeat, and helps me focus on the moment. With stress, we have so many “what ifs” in our minds. After all, we are here to enjoy it!"

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

"Don’t listen to anyone but your gut feeling."

This collaboration with STRĒID represents a shared commitment to quality, performance, and forward-thinking design. For Marie Mihaileanu, it’s an opportunity to align with a brand that reflects her professional standards both in and out of the arena. Looking ahead, this partnership sets the foundation for continued growth and success. If you're curious about the products or the partnership, feel free to approach Marie at shows—she’s always happy to share more about what makes STRĒID stand out.
