From 20–25 January 2026, the Al Shira’aa International Horse Show brought the thrill of elite show jumping to Abu Dhabi in its vibrant ninth edition, marking a memorable chapter for riders, spectators and families alike. Held under the Honorary Presidency of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the event once again established itself as one of the Middle East’s premier equestrian showcases.
A New Home for Global Show Jumping
This year’s competition moved to the Al Forsan International Sports Resort, a world-class venue that elevated the event’s atmosphere and facilities. Across six action-packed days, more than 350 horses and 150 riders from Europe, the Middle East and beyond competed across a range of classes. From young talent to seasoned professionals the audience were witness to exciting competitions as the riders competed for a combined prize fund in excess of €700,000.
With categories including CSI4-W, CSI2, CSI Young Horses, CSI Under-25, CSI Juniors, CSI Children, and CSI Amateurs, the show offered a dynamic programme packed with skill, strategy and speed. The structure highlighted a clear development pathway, nurturing tomorrow’s equestrian stars alongside established champions.
Thrilling Competition and Unforgettable Moments
The week built toward its pinnacle, the Al Shira’aa Longines CSI4-W FEI World Cup™ Grand Prix. This featured head-to-head battles over challenging courses, testing both horse and rider with jumps ranging up to 1.60m and showcasing precision, agility and heart under pressure.
At the Grand Prix finale, Irish rider Shane Breen was crowned champion aboard BP Arctic Blue, delivering the only double-clear round and stopping the clock in a breath-taking 47.61 seconds. Crowned by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Breen’s win was a highlight of the show, reflecting the event’s international prestige and high competitive standard. Second and third places went to Italy’s Guido Grimaldi and Britain’s Alexander McLean respectively.
Part of a Growing Equestrian Legacy
The Abu Dhabi edition of the Al Shira’aa Horse Show forms a key leg of the Al Shira’aa Tour, a global circuit dedicated to championing equestrian sport, from grassroots development to world-class competitions. Its expanding footprint reflects both the UAE’s passion for equestrian excellence and its commitment to nurturing talent across generations.
